The Police Credit Union (PCU) has decided they will not make a statement supporting the
alterations to the 2550 Irving building that the MSNA has requested. They also have refused to pursue any further testing of the level of PCE (Tetrachloroethylene) at and around the current parking lot, 2513 Irving, across the street. They intend to put together plans for an apartment building, with eight 2 bedroom units on the site.
The current levels of PCE at the site (2513 Irving St.) are well above what is safe for humans, but there has been no effort to test the area and homes around that site. PCE, as a vapor, moves radially, so it is reasonable to assume that it has and will continue to spread. We will continue to request that this site as well as 2550 Irving St. be monitored and that either the Department of Toxicology and Substance Control (DTSC) or the developer take responsibility for monitoring and mitigation.
Gordon Mar, our supervisor, has agreed to meet with a small group of Board members to
discuss both the issue of toxins at these two sites and other issues. The meeting is scheduled
for May 21st.
We are planning another neighborhood meeting, for all our members, on June 5th . You will get an invitation to join us shortly.
We are planning a raffle, with donations from our local merchants as well as members, in the
near future. We are doing this as one way to fund our lawyer, who is preparing a legal case
against the TNDC housing, as it is proposed.
If there is anything you can donate (eg. A lesson if you teach a musical instrument or other skill) please do let us know.
Placards opposing the TNDC building at 2550 Irving as it is proposed and offering our
compromise proposal are being welcomed in the windows of many of our local merchants.
If you would like a placard for your home, to put in the window, please just let us know through our email: 2550irvingcommunity@gmail.com
Thank you for being part of the community.
